[ sometime thursday afternoon, everyone will receive a text from either hung or nico with something along the lines of a request to meet in ben, melanie, and ace's room.

once everyone has arrived and the door has been shut, they'll see that both parties sitting and holding white pieces of paper. for a while there's silence...and then nico speaks. ]

Not only is there a rule in place now that heroes may act as villains, it seems that heroes can disappear under mysterious circumstances and be removed from Oceanside City. We were both sent elsewhere this morning, but we received some information you guys should probably hear...

[ he's holding his piece of paper, but he's reading off of it. ]

"The stakes so far have been too boring. It’s no fun when all they do at the end of the day is go home, so for the next round, we’ll spice it up a bit. If they want a chance for anyone to return at all, they’ll have to take that chance from someone else.

One death each week is enough to keep the door open. Kill, or lose everything any of them have cared about. Let’s see how heroic they can be in those conditions."

"These heroes are unable to return to the worlds they call home while they have yet to win their competition. If a team loses, all those within the team, present and future, those worlds they hail from will come under the light of the moon. Those worlds will be forever changed with the loss of the heroes hailing from them. There is nothing better than a hero under distress.

"By winning they will be putting their companions here at risk. By losing, their homes will be rewritten to be completely different, erasing their place within it. A dire situation indeed. A benefit no matter the outcome."

Anyway you look at it, rewriting our homes so we don't exist versus destroying the universe is kind of better. I mean, not ideal, but better.

What's with that, did they change the terms on us?

Mm, that's true... That's probably something to figure out—if the terms got changed or if this is, like, a multi-part thing or we misinterpreted or whatever.

What do you guys think...? Worth talking to the team leaders about this, or too risky?

On the one hand, maybe this will wake them up from their doubts about what's going on here, but on the other hand, we don't want it to leak that we're getting their secret notes.

I don't know about Nico's team - [ glancing his way ] - but we found our note and some other junk in the getaway car. We weren't given it. So I don't know if this is something that they revised to what we know, or if this is the current thing.

That's what it sounds like to me, too, but that's different than what they've been saying.

It's kind of on brand though, right? Someone up there is trying to pull the strings to make us live entertainment.

It does seem a little like...too evil. Like we sat around and decided how to be evil, because that's how evil we are. But I have met people who are actually like that.

Also, am I the only one who finds it a little coincidental that these notes showed up to two members of our group here right after we made it abundantly clear we think this whole thing is BS?

Not very. But that's been the problem here all along. If the potential consequences are bad enough, a lot of people aren't gonna want to risk it even if they aren't sure it's real.

Finding evidence that they're faking the threat is probably our best bet.
