[ hmmm. there's no right way to say he gave it to her because he fully did not expect to live again despite what people said. his emotions are pretty calm despite that thought ]
Sure. [ he likes his hat, but at this point he thinks she's got a deeper emotional attachment to it than he does. ] It's not like you're going far.
[it's a mix for her, because like yeah, she does have a dumb emotional attachment to it, but it is his hat. it was a symbol, more than anything, the same way reigen's regular old grey jacket was. these things belonged to them, and she carried them with her, so they'd keep living.
but ace is here again and he's not going to die on her watch, so the emotions are conflicted. she hops down from his head.]
Yeah. [she says, after a second, and then:] Maybe I'll keep it until I find something that fits my wanted poster.
And a new outfit. I need something that isn't part-chainmail for the water. [she hasn't worn her canon outfit in weeks but still.] A pink hat. Or bandanna.
[she's already thinking about it...... flag designs too, actually.]
[ it's not like he is regularly against shirts he's truly just been wearing them because of how naked he was in the gy without it and also he still keeps them open, wow
but he makes a face ]
... Probably while we're near the government headquarters. I don't really want to cover up my tattoo, but it's probably safer.
[ bleh. bleh!!! ]
Huh. Kind of both? Food and drinks, for sure, but you need other stuff to run a ship too. Definitely a new log pose. [ a beat ] It's a special kind of compass for the Grand Line, since regular ones don't work. It doesn't so much give you directions as lock on to an island's magnetic field.
Don't worry. I'll teach you and Saya all the tricks to sailing. Navigating's a little harder, though, we'll see if you guys pick it up. The ocean's a lot trickier than a forest.
[ hmmmm. excuse him while he draws a circle in the sand that he separates into four quadrants and writes north east south west ]
We'll already be on the Grand Line. There's five seas back home. They're called the Blues-- I was born in South Blue, but Luffy and I were raised in the East Blue. [ he points at the line he made vertically ] This would be a series of mountains called the Red Line. It separates the seas. It's totally out of our way, but the way to get across it includes climbing up the mountain through the river. It's a cool experience. [ BUT NOT THE POINT pointing to the other line ] This would be what we call the Grand Line. It's a treacherous stretch of ocean where everything is different and more dangerous than the other seas. Pirate graveyard's is what people in the Blues call it. But the half we'll be in is nicknamed Paradise when you're on the line itself, because once you get to the New World past Fishman Island, that's when things really get insane. That's where Pops' territories are. ... Were.
[ frowns at were but moving on ]
It's where we'll be heading, since that's where they would have gone back to.
[not gonna let the ocean beat her ass in a fight!!!
but she peers at the map he draws.] Huh. Okay.
Is Paradise one of those names where it's like, it's funny that it's called Paradise because it's really not one? [stretchy... she reaches to draw on his circle. she draws a little shark in the quadrant he's referring to.]
[ he kind of laughs as he watches her draw the shark ]
Yes and no. The Grand Line is hell for anyone normal, but the first half is paradise compared to what people call the New World. That's where all the toughest pirates are. [ that's where he lived!! ] And then... [ he draws another line around the grand line ] The reason most people can't just skip directly to random spots in the Grand Line is this. It's called the Calm Belt. There's no current, no wind, nothing. On top of that, it's filled with Sea Kings, those giant sea creatures I told you about? They sense any disturbance, they attack.
Yeah! [he did say that! she really wants to do that! she's also excited to try and turn into one, actually, she thinks she could probably manage it.]
Jeeze. Everything on the ocean wants to kill you. [this sounds fun, tbh] ... How do you get out of the Calm Belt if the current and stuff doesn't work?
For most people? You row. So people usually just go around to reach the Grand Line. [ turns his hand into fire ] I've got no reason to go through and out of it, but if I wanted to, it'd be pretty easy for me, though.
Striker's not that easy to tip over! And I'm faster. [ noogies her ] Anyway, I can intimidate Sea Kings with my... [ he makes a face ] Actually, that's hard to explain, so let's just call it a special technique for today.

Brat. [ fond. horrid. ] You want to keep it, or are we getting you a new one?

the question actually startles her a little, funnily enough. there's a lot of ??? and then:]
... You'd let me keep it?

Sure. [ he likes his hat, but at this point he thinks she's got a deeper emotional attachment to it than he does. ] It's not like you're going far.

Sure, that's doable. We can go clothes shopping once we get to an island. We need supplies anyway.

[it's just weird that he has a shirt ok]
Supplies like what, food? Or like... pirate supplies. [what are pirate supplies.]

I guess you're gonna have to show me how to run a boat, because I've never actually been on one that wasn't ours here and that doesn't count.
Is that where we're going? The Grand Line. [headtilt...] What's so grand about it?

It'd be easy for you until some big nasty water snake tried to knock you into the water. [huff.] Man, I wonder how big of a bird I can manage...

It has nothing to do with being weak, stupid! All they have to do is tip you over! There's so much ocean and so little you.
