Well, goody two-shoes was never gonna happen. Pirate an' all.
[ he hums. spoilers: he trailed off because it was depressing, so he is now trying to think of a different thing to say, but he can't so he goes sorta middle ground instead of the actual thing he was gonna say; where it's still kinda sad sack but not Depressing: ]
Sometimes I wonder how I'd have turned out if it had still been the three of us. Not like there's any way to know, though.
[she doesn't seem to mind if it's sad or not, really, she just - wants to know about him, and how he feels about things. that's kind of a novelty, sometimes. she's never really cared about people's backstories before.
she glances up at him, hands still in her pockets.]
Guess not. [...] Maybe it would've been better or maybe it would've been worse, but you guys wouldn't have ever been alone. That's probably important.
Thinking about that kind of thing makes my head hurt. [there's so many possibilities - though her pessimistic ass tends to only think of the bad ones.]
I try not to linger about it too much. No point focusing on the past, but... it's hard to do that this week. [ memshares are hard. the hairbrush is clean so he swipes her cheek with it ] Well, forget all that. Point is I was a pretty lousy kid, but I'm glad you got some entertainment out of it.
[she looks around them with a bit of a :nyeh: look like she's expecting panels to show up - and that's when he gets her with the brush and she squawks.]
I wasn't any better. [she says, slapping at his hands playfully. it's been such a long time since she was a kid, but she's reasonably sure of this.] And that lady deserved it, anyway. I would've stolen her wallet too.
Well, I'm not sorry about that part. Though I didn't always knock out people when I stole from them. [ #criminal life etc ] Who yells at a kid because they want better coffee anyway?
They're definitely not. [ he isn't a big fan either!! ] Normally when people think you're a "hero", they act like they respect you at least a little. I don't know what the hell these people are thinking.
If I'm making it for you, I should put some pink in. [ thats how its nimona coded. hmmm. he looks through paints and tilts his head ] I think I've got an idea. How do you feel about sunsets?
You can do whatever colors you want, I'm not the boss of you. [but she does like pink. she glances up at him.] I like 'em fine. It's almost weirder if I didn't. Why?
[she smiles a little bit at that first part. it's a gift, so it should fit you - that shouldn't be novel! it shouldn't be!!
she does ask he asks though, digging through the paints to get him a bunch of oranges and pinks, and dumps them down on the counter next to him. she is ignoring any prinnies who might want payment or something.
she peers annoyingly over his shoulder as he works]
[ What Payment etc. anyway it's a pirate flag so it's still a black background and he's sort of making a dumb face as he thinks, like, poking his tongue out and squinting and everything ]
Let's see... [ well. off he goes. he's pretty quiet because he is working hard on it, but basically he ends up (trying) to make a sunset in these colors with a very simple blue line to represent a wave underneath for the background, and then a sort of stylized (not great) pink shark instead of the usual skull. the crossbones are still the same though. they are still there.
IT'S......... honestly messy but it's at least Understandable. but also never let him draw a circle again that poor sunset is so wonky ]
That looked better in my head. [ he's got some paint on his cheek and all over his hands because he was not paying attention. woops!! he laughs a little when he notes there is also a bit of pink splattered over the corner where it is supposed to just be black ] Woops. Man, building stuff is so much easier.
she watches him work with a curious sort of expression. she's quiet while he works just because he's so focused, but she leans against him a bit and grins when she figures out that it's a shark. and by the time he's finished, she's kind of draped over his back just hanging out.]
Shut up, it looks awesome! [she insists, throwing her arm out wildly.] You - I like it.
[firmly. he has to know that she loves this flag, and it doesn't matter how wonky it might look, he put all his effort into making it look good and she's going to keep it forever. in a place that isn't a treehouse.]
[ definitely do not keep it in a treehouse. he seems completely comfortable with her just draping the whole time and makes no move to remove her even now, just laughing again though he seems a little pleased this time ]
Yeah? Good to know. [ and then, mock pensive: ] But I still think I should add spaghetti to one of these flags sometime.
[ the problem with trying to dodge someone's hand when they are literally draped over you is that if you go lean back too far on a chair like that suddenly it kind of wobbles and then you try to balance but can't account for the extra wrestling weight and anyway they are going down to the ground in a pile of limbs and paint while ace yelps ]
[she lets out a tiny shriek-yelp that sounds more like laughter as they fckin timber to the ground. there is a huge clatter, paint is everywhere, and nimona is being half squished because of how she was draped on him
ow, but also this is the funniest thing in the world and she's losing it]
[ fun news they now match EVEN MORE in freckles. in that they now have a lot of pinks and oranges splattered all over their faces. and everywhere else, which has ace wheezing a little even as he rolls off her. and into more paint. woops. he's cackling just as much though ]

[a beat.] I haven't felt like a hero this whole time, not even a fake one.
[which, like, good. she's not exactly complaining, just. y'know.]

None of it has felt like there was any point other than to screw with us, which I guess is true considering the diary pages we keep getting.

[ he makes a face. but here we are at the art!! place!!! ]
Forget about that. We'll have to see what people bring back tomorrow anyway, we can complain about it then. [ note: the people were both of them ]

Whatever it is will be stupid, probably! [the way they both really did just get spirited away] Anyway. What colors do you want?
